SPRINGTIME SAFETY TIP –
FROM THE NURSE
BETH ANN WELCH

nurse

The weather is warmer and the days are longer, it’s a wonderful time to encourage outside activities for the entire family.  A walk after supper around the  neighborhood or to a nearby playground, perhaps a family bike ride or a game of kick ball are all good choices to get exercise.  But, please do remember that on school nights children need a good night’s rest & healthy breakfast in the morning to insure that your child is ready to learn and participate in the entire school day.

Black fly, mosquito & tick season will soon be here, when the sun starts to set these seasonal pests come out, so be sure you have protected your child well with insect repellent or that they are inside.  When your child does come in check them well for ticks, especially if they have been near the woods or tall grass.Sunscreen is another good proactive protection for your child when ever they are outside.   The school and nurses do not provide sunscreen or bug spray for a couple of reasons.  First, it can be applied at home and typically lasts the school day.  Secondly, some people are allergic to the ingredients.  It
is safest for you, the parent/guardian to apply these  products at home. All that said this is a wonderful time of the year but the above precautions can make it more enjoyable for everyone!

READ! READ! READ!
bookworm reading
REMINDER: Please continue to read with your child every day for 20 minutes. Thank you!
