ABC's Of Kindergarten.....(A
Parent's Handbook)

Remember, good attendance is
linked to school success! If your child is going to be absent,
please call the school and/or send a note explaining the absence.
Each child's birthday will be celebrated. If your child
has a summer birthday you can look forward to the class helping to honor
those children with a special treat as a, "Summer Birthday Party."
It is permissible to send a cake or cupcakes into school for a birthday
"snack." If you are planning a private birthday party at your home,
I will only send home invitations, if everyone in the class is invited.
This saves hurt feelings of those not invited. Good communication between parents and teachers is essential.
Feel free to discuss with me any problems or concerns that you may have
with your child. In kindergarten, your child will be writing with markers,
painting, and playing outdoors. In other words, they may get dirty.
Just remember that kids and clothes are washable.
Every once in a while, I will be sending home wish lists of things
we need for the classroom. Your donations will be greatly
appreciated!
Expect a newsletter every Friday letting you know important dates
and events at school. We go on field trips. Your child will need a signed permission
slip to go. Remember...we love chaperons that are able to join
us in the supervision of our children. Your child is growing each day. Enjoy this wonderful
time with them! Your child's first homework assignment is that someone read to
her every day and help practice her lessons with her. Foster your child's independence. Let him do as much as
he can for himself.
Please don't send expensive jewelry with your children.
We will not be responsible for lost or borrowed jewelry. Kindergarten kids are wonderful! Listen to what your child has to say. He
is learning to express himself. If you need to send money to school, please put
it in a labeled, sealed envelope. Milk money is $.50 each day.
We really love having the whole order paid for by the week on Monday.
Notes from home may be placed in the, "Into School" box.
As the year progresses, I really count on the children remembering this
important communication skill at school. If you need to take your child home early, please go to the office
first and check her out. The same is true if she is tardy.
We will be taking plenty of pictures of class activities this
year. I will work with a digital camera, but would still welcome donations
of 35mm film, disposable cameras, and/or film developing will be gladly
accepted! Your child will need a quiet place to practice and read.
These are habits to last a lifetime! We have rules to follow for safety and also to honor each persons'
feelings. Classroom rules help everyone grow and learn.
Children need to bring a small, healthy snack into class every
day. The children will be provided with crayons, paper, scissors,
and other necessary supplies. We ask that you do not send in any
other supplies. One toy may be brought to school from home. The children
place them in the Sharing Cubby for the day. This means that anyone
may visit with the item at will during choice time. If you have any
talent that you would like to share with the class, we would love to
have you come and share it. In the past, we have had firemen,
crafters, readers, musicians, and a lobsterman. The children would
be truly enriched by your contributions. Contact me if you're
interested.
The family and the school should be united for
the child's educational success. I invite parents and other family members to volunteer in/or
out of the classroom. We have a Volunteer Coordinator that will be contacting
you early in the year. Our water fountain is located outside our room. Children
may sign out of the room, as needed. It is also a superb drink in their
thermos at snack time. Each and every Kindergarten child is Extra special to
me! You, the parents are your child's first and most important teacher!
When you walk into the kindergarten classroom, it may look like
a "zoo", but there is active learning happening there!
