Wandering Pen

Sneak Previews of this Spring's Wandering Pen ....

Live

Just take the fall.
My arms are open.
I will catch.
Leap.
Love will guide you.
New tomorrow.
Are you ready?
Open your heart.
Expand your mind.
It’s okay to feel.
Be unsure.
Be curious.
Be human.
Live.

My Favorite Time of the Year

Leaves turn golden shades of orange and red
Sunlight filters through the branches on the trees
Cool, crisp air sends leaves swirling past my head
Caught in a leafy golden sun-lit sea

Apples, and haystacks, and cider, and pie
Bouncing children, rosy-cheeked and well fed
Horse-drawn wagon tumbles under night sky
Babies laughing ‘til they are put to bed

A cold wind blows crumpled leaves off the trees
The beauty and magic are almost gone
Grown-ups sit drinking decaf herbal tea
As they watch moon beams shine on the front lawn

“And we’re all a small, small part of this world”
Whispered the leaves as they drifted and swirled.

Drumline

Everything is silent. The only sound is my own nervous breath and my heart pounding inside like a drum. Like the one on my shoulders and the shoulders of my friends. My brothers and sisters. My very family. Some of them were clumsy or funny, some shy, but all of them are filled with talent. Hard work and determination. Strength and pride. Even fear and anxiety. However different we may be, we all feel the adrenaline of now. Waiting for a voice to crack the air and call us to lift our heads. But for now we wait, hidden in the silence of the DRUMLINE.
