| The mission of the library media center is to facilitate the
education of students for lifelong learning. In this information
rich world, it is essential that all students and adults become
effective users of information. To accomplish this, the library
media program is designed to provide them with the lifelong skills
of locating, analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and communicating
information. This focus on the development of skills,rather than
on simply providing information, shapes the learning and outcomes
that students’ experience through the library media center.
Research skills are enhanced through the use of a variety of information
sources including Athena, the electronic catalog of the library’s
collection, EbscoHost, an online subscription providing access to
magazines and newspapers, Online encyclopedia subscriptions from
Grolier, CD-ROM resources, local area network (LAN) resources, and
Internet resources. The media collection is comprised of over 17,500
titles, including 2,300 reference titles, 50 magazine titles, and
over 900 audiovisual titles. Learning experiences are planned and
provided cooperatively by the library staff and teachers to most
effectively utilize these resources. Equipment available through
the library media center for student and faculty use includes: twenty
networked pc’s, one digital scanner, one photocopier, two
networked black and white printers, one color printer, one camcorder
with tripod and wireless microphone, one digital camcorder, two
VCR’s with television set up for taping/production, six televisions
with VCR’s, and DVD’s on carts, two LCD projectors,
one large screen television
with scan converter, tape players, CD players, numerous overhead
projectors, and a laminating machine.
The library media center can accommodate up to eighty students at
one time, and is open from 7:00 to 2:30 most school days. All students
are welcome, with passes being required during the hours that classes
are in session (7:30 - 2:15).
