Bud Carlson Alternative School

The Bud Carlson Alternative School is a drop out prevention program aimed at increasing the potential of Spaulding High School students in grades 9-12. The fundamental goals are to help students become more successful academically and socially. The mission of the Bud Carlson Alternative School is to assist students who are at risk of dropping out to develop a positive self-image, increase social and academic skills, and be motivated to succeed in Spaulding High School and in society. The Bud Carlson Alternative School has served Rochester and its youth for more than twenty years. Admission to the program is achieved through an interview and selection process. Students are usually referred to the school by guidance counselors, administrative staff or teachers based upon issues of chronic truancy, academic failure, and disciplinary actions.

Freshman Academy

Spaulding High School is excited to offer its very first Freshman Success Academy. The mission of the Academy is to provide a smooth transition from middle school to high school. First year incoming freshman students will be placed on teams consisting of approximately 100 students. These students will have the same core teachers for Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. These classes will take place on team. All other elective classes will be offered off team.


Health Services

The Nurse’s Office provides a wide variety of needs to the student population at Spaulding High School and the Richard W. Creteau Regional Technology Center .Foremost, the nurse oversees student compliance with State of New Hampshire Immunization and Health Laws. Services include, basic first aid for in-school injuries, initial assessment for students with minor illnesses, provides access to an in-school support group for pregnant/parenting teens, administers Tylenol as needed with written permission from a parent, administers prescription medication as ordered by a physician (this requires a written note from the physician and a parent), provides physicals & TB Testing for Early Childhood Education and Health Science Technology students, conducts vision and hearing screening as necessary.


Plato Learning Program

PLATO Learning is a web-based program that allows teachers to customize and personalize instruction for students including accountability and assessment solutions. The web based programs that Plato offers supports teaching core curriculum, assists struggling students, allows for practice for standard tests and can be utilized helping students recover credits. Plato Learning enhances educational programming and provides a unique an engaging environment for high school students.


Summer School

The Rochester School District offers a summer school, for students who have failed a regular academic course, to perform the necessary additional work that would have been required for a passing grade. Students who achieved between a 60% and a 69% in a course are eligible to enroll in summer school to earn the credit for that course. Also, students who completed a course with a passing grade but were denied credit because of excessive absences, may be permitted to enroll in summer school to earn that credit. Summer school credit will be graded as pass or fail for purposes of issuing a credit. Tuition
will be charged for participation in summer school.
