Disaggregation

When the scores of individual students are grouped together for calculation of an average score and statistical analysis, they have been aggregated. When the aggregated scores are grouped together by common characteristics, they have been disaggregated.

Disaggregating and grouping is useful in comparing sub-groups within a school population. For example school officials can compare the performance of boys and girls or look at the performance of students who work as compared those who have no after school jobs.

Disaggregated data are used to measure the effectiveness of various programs and teaching strategies.
