The Rochester School Distinct routinely receives personal computers of varying levels as donations for classroom or other use. Depending on the level of computer offered, such units may be a valued addition to our network, or may lack sufficient resources to run programs currently in use for either administrative or instructional purposes.
The following recommendations are intended to provide guidelines for schools when dealing with potential donors to insure the best use of time and resources, as well as insuring that donated computers will be usable for administrative and/or instructional purposes.
- The minimum level of acceptance for donated computers is a Pentium IV, 2GHz processor, PC based unit. Lower levels cannot be utilized with the software and network applications now in use.
- The School Districts policy is to phase out the use of MAC systems. The district will not be accepting donations of MAC based systems.
- Only 3 year old or newer Laser Jet printers are desirable donations.
- Critical....all equipment must be in good working order.
- CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors are unacceptable under any circumstances. LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors must be 17” or larger.
- All hardware must support Windows XP Pro, Vista Business, or Windows 7 Business based software.
- The district will also consider accepting computer components on a case-by-case basis.
We will not physically accepting any goods until a donation form with detailed information has been submitted and approved by the CIC.
