Mike
Bergeron originally form Bristol, Rhode Island, holds a bachelors degree in
music education from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
While in Washington he studied trombone with the principal and second chair
players of the National Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Bergeron has played under the
baton of such notable conductors and musicians as Mistlav Rostropovich and Dr.
Frederick Fenell. He has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts in Washington D.C., the National Shrine and with various opera and stage
companies. He has done graduate studies with distinguished music educators and
composers such as James Swearingen, Richard F. Grunow and Francis McBeth. He
is also co-founder and member of the Strafford County Wind Symphony that is
based in Rochester, NH and performs throughout New England, serving as its assistant
conductor from 1991-1996. Mr. Bergeron has taught music in the Rochester schools
since 1984. He enjoys sailing, hiking, bicycling and attending concerts.
Melissa Smith, a graduate of Spaulding High School, was very active in the music
and sports programs. Inspired by the Rochester music program, she went on to
study music education and received her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from
the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, NY. Miss Smith also holds a Masters
Degree in Music Education from the Hartt School, University of Hartford, CT.
While in college, she studied saxophone with James Stoltie and Ken Radnofsky.
She has studied with notable music educators such as Phyllis Weikart, John Feierabend,
Richard Grunow, Andrew Balent, and Bruce Pearson. Miss Smith has been a member
of the New England Wind Symphony and currently performs with the Strafford County
Wind Symphony. Miss Smith also was a director of a junior high/high school band
for two years in Massachusetts before coming to Rochester. She has taught music
in the Rochester schools for fourteen years. Her other interests include ringing
handbells, traveling, photography, walking the beach and various sports.
