Touching Spirit Bear
by Tyler S.
Turtles Team

If you don’t like to read I would definitely recommend Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen—you will be hooked!

If you think your life is full of problems, you should see what Cole Mathew’s life is like. Fifteen year old Cole Mathews is a troubled teen who seeks violence. He’s been to court countless times but this time, he’s gone too far.

After breaking into a store, he trashes the place. The next day, Peter Driscal rats him out. At the end of the day, Cole decides to deliver revenge . . . Cole brutally beats Peter, and smashes his head on a sidewalk. Now more trouble comes his way and he thinks he’s ready for it.

I really like this book because it leaves you on the edge and you will keep reading it.

Tangerine
by Mrs. Hanscom’s class

Have you ever heard someone say that your life is different than you thought? Have you ever felt like your family was keeping a secret from you? These questions darted through thirteen-year-old Paul Fisher’s mind as he was trying to adjust to his new home in Tangerine County, Florida.
Moving to Tangerine may have seemed boring, but it bloomed into a full-fledged adventure. New school…new house…no friends. Paul tries to get on a soccer team, but he has an I.E.P. Will the school find out? When his school partially ends up in a sinkhole, Paul has to transition to another new school. Will he fit in, and will his I.E.P. follow him forever? In addition to all this, Paul has even bigger concerns on his mind about his brother. Eric has done many things that his family would never have predicted.
Mrs. Hanscom’s 6th Grade Reading class had a tough time putting this book down. They give it five stars because it pulls you into the plot with the suspense that keeps on building. People who like to try and predict what will happen next will fall in love with Tangerine by Edward Bloor.

Coraline—A Very Scary Book
By Mrs. Carloni

When I was a little kid, I always wanted to find an old forgotten door in my house that would lead to secret rooms. In the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman, the main character, a girl named Coraline, DOES find a secret door. But nobody would ever want to find the rooms and the people in them that she finds. This book was so exciting and so scary, I stayed up almost all night to finish it.

Coraline is an only child with very busy parents. They just moved into a flat (English word for apartment) in an old house in England. It is the end of the summer and always raining and Coraline is very bored. One day she finds a key to a door off of their drawing room. There is another flat behind the door that looks a lot like theirs, and two people who look a lot like Coraline’s parents except for there are black buttons where their eyes should be. They REALLY want her to stay and be their little girl. Then her real parents go missing...

I recommend this book for people who have big imaginations and like to be scared. It is a thrilling adventure.
