There are a number of advantages to using these databases
over surfing the web. Some of the most important being they are
direct connections to the source and therefore much faster than
a search engine, the source of the information is known and authoritative,
and they contain no advertisements or pop ups.
Ebsco Host: Provides access to a number of research
databases that each provide access to a specific set of
sources. The databases are: MasterFile – 1,900 periodicals
covering all subjects, Business
Source Elite – 1,090 journals covering business, finance,
etc., Newspaper Source, Health
Source, MAS Ultra School edition – 515 general interest and
current event magazines, Middle
Search Plus – 145 magazines, Primary Search – 57 children’s
magazines, Ebsco Animals,
Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia, Professional Development Collection
– 515 journals, Eric
– 980 education related journals, Academic Search Elite –
1700 journals.

Grolier Online:
Provides access to several encyclopedias: Encyclopedia Americana,
Grolier Multimedia
Encyclopedia, New Book of Knowledge, New Book of Popular Science,
Lands and Peoples,
America the Beautiful, and a dictionary and an atlas. You may click
on any one of these to
open individually, or search all at once using the search engine
on the bottom right of the

NewsBank:
Provides access to current events, and to The Manchester Union Leader
from 1989 – present.
