Cameras in the Classroom
General classroom ideas:
- Enhance nametags and desk plates with students' pictures.
- Add photos to class seating charts for easy I.D. for
substitutes.
- Add photos to certificates and awards, or for "Student
of the Week", VIP, etc.
- Make birthday cards for students from a template and
personalize with their photo.
- End of year Memory Books with photos of all classmates,
or memory book with comments from classmates for students
who move during the year.
- Open House displays
- Document class projects
- Personalize student gifts at Christmas, Mother's day,
etc.
- To record a field trip, allowing the students to write
about them at a later time
- Enhance school web sites with images.
Curriculum ideas:
- Language Arts- Use for journal writing, classroom newsletters,
autobiographies, student author page in student books, biographical
poems. Make ABC books with students taking a picture of
something from each letter of the alphabet. Word flash cards
and games with picture cues for the words. To use as a writing
prompt.
- Math- documenting sorting activities, picture graphs,
visual record of independent learning center activities
- Science- Make posters to illustrate a concept. Document
change over a period of time- seasons, growth of a plant
or pet, experiments. Go on a digital scavenger hunt, looking
for examples of a given subject. To illustrate the steps
in a procedure.
- Social Studies- Document field trips then have students
write captions and reflections for a journal, newsletter,
or bulletin board. Interview people in the school or community
for a report or newsletter. Make a photo essay of historic
places in our town or island. Use photos to make a map of
the community. Use photos to add meaning to a timeline.
- Special Education- Take pictures of procedure steps to
use as visual cues. Make sequence cards for tasks. Take
pictures of students in social situations and have them
express verbally or in writing what they are doing in the
pictures.
