Rochester Reads

Rochester Reads is a grassroots organization, whose dual mission is to ensure that:

  • every child is read to 20 minutes a day

  • every child be reading at or above grade level by the end of grade 3.

Rochester Reads operates under four guideline principles

  • Involve broadly

  • Support families

  • Operate lean

  • Stay focused

Rochester Reads participates in the following events to promote literacy in the community of Rochester:

  • Downtown Flag Display

  • National Night Out

  • City Halloween Party

  • Other Various Local Family Events

Book Distribution – Rochester Reads provides “gently used” books free to families attending any event.
We also have community sites where books are available for reading or taking including:

  • Rochester Police Department

  • Rochester Rec Center 2nd Floor (Free Library)

  • Rochester School Department Central Office

  • Gerry's Food Pantry

Rochester Reads meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 2:30-3:30pm in the Rose Room on the 2nd floor of the Rochester Public Library.
Upcoming meetings are: October 1, November 5, and December 3.
