I wanted to share that next week RMS will be conducting schoolwide NWEA testing. Below is the testing schedule:

Wednesday, 1/21: NWEA Reading

Thursday, 1/22: NWEA Math

Friday, 1/23 Thursday, 1/29: Make-up testing

Please be sure your child arrives at school on time, well rested, and ready to do their best. These assessments help us better understand student progress and guide instruction.

CO-ED Soccer Announcement:
All students interested in participating in Intramural CO-ED Soccer are asked to pick up a permission slip located on the bulletin board in the gymnasium. The permission slip for Soccer must be returned by Wednesday , January 14th to Ms. Smith, Ms. Lloyd or Mr. Cheek. After returning the permission slip you will be placed on a team.
Intramural Soccer will begin on Thursday January 15th and end on Thursday February 5, 2026.
Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:25 pm– 3:15pm.

Team Columbia made sourdough bread from scratch in our FSC room during advisory on Friday. We love seeing our students try new things.

Book Club Announcement:

If your New Year's resolution was to read more and talk about books more, then the RMS Book Club is the club for you. Join us on Tuesday, January 13th in the library from 2:30-3:15 to talk about The Tenth Mistake of Hank Hooperman by Gennifer Choldenko. Refreshments will be served; contact Ms. Marshall for more details.

Drama Club Announcement:

Attention students interested in Drama Club, Ms. Brunelle will be in the Chorus room tomorrow afternoon, Thursday January 8th, from 2:30 - 3:30 pm. Ms. Brunelle is coming in to help students who may need assistance with audition materials, have any questions, or would like to introduce themselves.

Reminder for RMS Girls Basketball:

There will be practice at RMS this afternoon from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. Please reach out to your coaches with any questions. Thank you!

This week we have started our team crab soccer mini tournaments. Our school-wide crab soccer in next Friday !

The weatherman is predicting snowy and icy conditions for tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 7th. Therefore in order to give our facility team time to get things cleaned up and to ensure the roads are safe for travel, there will be a 2 hour delay for the Rochester Schools Wednesday Jan 7th.

Select Choir practice has been CANCELED for this afternoon, Monday, January 5, 2025.

Yearbook Announcement:

Reminder for students and families, Yearbook club will resume meeting next Monday January 12, 2026.

RMS Basketball Announcement:

RMS Boys and Girls Basketball will have practice this afternoon from 2:30 - 3:30 pm in the RMS Gymnasium today, Monday January 5, 2026.

A message from our Wellness Coach, Mrs. Leas:

I hope that our RMS Families are enjoying their holiday break!

I am the new Wellness Coach for our RMS students. I am currently working on restructuring our FCS classroom, and I am asking our school community for assistance. Our biggest ask is a portable dishwasher. Proper food safety requires items to be washed at high temperatures, and this would make a huge difference. Maybe Santa brought you a brand-new kitchen this year?

Additionally, I currently have a Donors Choose project for the wellness classroom side. Donations there are tax-deductible, and right now all donations are being doubled, perfect for anyone looking to meet their end-of-year giving goals 😉

Thank you all so much for your continued support. I hope everyone enjoys a restful and happy break. I’ll be in and out of the building over break doing some organizing and would be more than happy to pick up any donations.

7 Days of Little Moments, Big Learning: Holiday Break Family Chats

Holiday break offers families a chance to reconnect and reflect together. The Rochester School District has created “7 Days of Little Moments, Big Learning”, a one-page family resource designed to spark meaningful conversations between parents and children during the break.

Each day includes a simple discussion prompt or activity that helps build important skills such as communication, empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and goal-setting — all without worksheets or added pressure.

These family chats are meant to fit naturally into your day and support learning beyond the classroom.
