World Down Syndrome Day is marked each year on March 21st, beginning in 2006. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes down syndrome. One way to help bring awareness on this day is to wear some crazy socks! The reasoning behind the socks is because chromosomes look a bit like socks.

In 5th Grade we have started Composer March Madness! Each class, students will click the link to CMM on the Fifth Grade music website: http://gon-mcl-music.weebly.com/fifth-grade-classroom.html To be able to learn about different composers from music history. Each composer has a page with a short biography and some selections from their music to listen to. Students can be surprised at which composers they are already familiar with. This week, we started with one half of the Sweet Sixteen... and students voted for their preferred composer of each pair. Who did your student prefer? Why? Do you know any of these composers? Stay tuned to see who makes it through to the Elite Eight!
